We’ve seen robots carry out important functions during surgeries, some of them even being controlled remotely by a surgeon thousands of miles away. Now, Panasonic has designed an autonomous delivery robot called Hospi to help overworked staff manage hospital wards more efficiently.

Sporting a cheerful smile on a screen, this 170-kilogram delivery robot is equipped with sensors and pre-programmed with the hospital’s map data to allow it to navigate freely on its own while avoiding obstacles such as patients. Hospi delivers bulky medicines, patient case notes and samples, and can only be accessed by users who have the correct identification.
