AsianScientist (Mar. 24, 2016) – The Royal University of Agriculture in Cambodia and Ghent University in Belgium, together with its center of excellence Food2Know, have joined forces with 12 partner institutions from Europe and Southeast Asia to implement a new Erasmus Plus project on food and agriculture. The “Network of universities and enterprises for food training in Southeast Asia” (NutriSEA) project aims to set up a regional food network with stakeholders from academia, business and authorities.
The European partners will deliver trainings for staff of universities in Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar on different topics such as entrepreneurship, food science and quality, improving teaching skills and technology transfer.
The consortium will also strengthen internationalization to improve regional and international networking and mobility. Staff and students will have the opportunity to go on study visits to partner institutions in Belgium, France, Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands and Hungary.
NutriSEA is funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus Plus program. It is one of 27 selected projects in Asia for capacity building in higher education, and the only one counting Myanmar as partner.
The partners presented the project to the invited press and official guests, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the EU delegation, the chamber of commerce, the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft, the Ministry of Commerce and Cambodia H&K Education Co. Ltd.
All members present signed an official protocol to underline the importance of the project for the food sector specifically, and the agricultural sector at large, in the region.
