AsianScientist (Oct. 16, 2014) – The University of Sydney has signed an agreement to foster collaboration in research and teaching with one of China’s most influential think tanks, the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS)
Sydney’s Vice-Chancellor Dr. Michael Spence and SASS President Professor Wang Zhan signed the agreement during a visit to Shanghai by senior members of a University delegation. The agreement aims to establish a new working relationship between the two institutions, and will encourage exchanges of staff and researchers to work on common research themes and projects.
Professor Duncan Ivison, Dean of Arts and Social Sciences, said overlapping research interests included the future of global cities, labor economics, international trade, international relations and philosophy.
Ivison said: “We are delighted to be taking a further step in deepening our relationship with SASS. It is one of the leading academies in China for research in the social sciences and has a particularly important role in helping inform the strategic direction of the Shanghai region more generally.
“We are looking forward to working with them on important issues facing both China and Australia. They also have an Australian Research Centre with whom we will work over the coming months in particular.”
