AsianScientist (Oct. 13, 2014) – A wireless communication expert at the University of Sydney, Professor Branka Vucetic, has been awarded one of China’s top honors: the Chinese Government Friendship Award. Prof. Vucetic was presented with her citation at a ceremony held in the Great Hall of the People, Tiananmen Square, Beijing.
The Chinese Government Friendship Award is given by the central government for continuous and sustained cooperation in education, science, technology, management, sports and culture. In Professor Vucetic’s case it was given for her long-term cooperation with Chinese tertiary institutions and her contribution to furthering education, science and technology in China.
“The People’s Republic of China will soon celebrate its 65th birthday. As the whole country is celebrating the occasion, we are here to hold this grand presentation ceremony, conferring the Friendship Award issued by the Chinese government to 100 foreign experts from 25 countries. It is the highest award issued by the Chinese government to honor foreign experts in China,” said The People’s Republic of China’s Vice-Premier Ma Kai.
Prof. Vucetic is Director of the Telecommunications Laboratory in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies where she applies her internationally recognized expertise in coding theory to wireless engineering.
Her research interests include digital communication theory, error control coding and multi-user detection. Her current projects include Interference Cancellation in Co-Working Wireless Local Area Networks, Network Coding and Wireless Sensor Networks for Environment and Energy Monitoring.
