Singapore’s A*STAR and Japan’s IHI Corporation will collaborate on driving R&D in science, technology and biomedical sectors across Asia.

AsianScientist (Jun 10, 2014) – Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and Japanese tech and industrial company IHI Corporation have committed to a Master Research Collaboration Agreement, which will facilitate the development of efficient and innovative solutions to benefit the chemical, infocomm and media, manufacturing, and biomedical industries in Singapore and across Asia.

Based on the agreement, the R&D activities will involve A*STAR’s Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES), Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) and Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN). The areas of collaboration include technologies for energy and environment-related sectors, solutions for infocomm media sectors, and potential projects in biomedical research.

“We see the collaboration with IHI Corporation as a long-term partnership in areas of mutual interests,” said Professor Raj Thampuran, Managing Director at A*STAR. “This expansion of our partnership to new areas widens our efforts to attract higher valued R&D activities to our landscape.”

“Our collaboration with A*STAR is a good example of our commitment to open innovation,” Mr Degawa Sadao, Executive Vice President of IHI Corporation, remarked.
