“Deng received the 2024 Future Science Prize in Life Sciences for pioneering discoveries in cellular reprogramming, demonstrating that small molecules can alter cell fate and convert somatic cells into pluripotent stem cells. His work established a chemical approach to stem-cell reprogramming, opening new possibilities for regenerative medicine and therapies for diseases such as diabetes.
Deng’s research has advanced the development of cell-based treatments that could enable patients’ own cells to be transformed into functional therapeutic cells. In recognition of his global impact on biomedical science, Deng was also named on the TIME100 Health 2025 list, which highlights innovators driving transformative advances in healthcare.”
