Benico was named a 2025 Outstanding Young Scientist by the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines, for his research in aquatic biosciences, particularly the taxonomy and systematics of microalgae and harmful dinoflagellates affecting marine ecosystems, fisheries and aquaculture.
