
AsianScientist (Apr. 25, 2014) – The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), which is affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has appointed academician Ding Zhongli as its new president.
A geologist by training, Ding obtained his PhD from the CAS Institute of Geology, predecessor to the present CAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics. Ding’s research has covered climate change in the Quaternary Period, which is the most recent period of the Cenozoic Era in the geologic time scale. He has contributed insights into the sequence of loess, a type of sediment, across the Chinese Loess or Huangtu Plateau.
According to CAS, Ding has said that as president of UCAS he will further promote the integration of scientific research and education at the university and provide students the best science and education resources CAS has to offer.
