Presenting Danica May Camacho Of Manila, Philippines… The World’s 7 Billionth Baby

Baby Danica May Camacho of the Philippines has been chosen by the United Nations as the symbolic seven billionth baby to be born worldwide.

AsianScientist (Oct. 31, 2011) – Earlier today, little Miss Danica May Camacho of the Philippines was born at the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Santa Cruz, Manila.

Unaware of much of her surroundings, Danica will someday find out that she has been chosen by the United Nations as the symbolic seven billionth baby to be born worldwide, into the 12th most populated country in the world.

Danica was showered with photographs, speeches by officials commemorating her birth, a large chocolate cake marked “7B Philippines,” and a gift certificate for free shoes.

The UN chose Monday to mark the day with a string of festivities, and although Danica was born two minutes before midnight, doctors say it is close enough to be a Monday birthday.

Other organizations have also chosen symbolic seven billionth babies: Plan International has chosen a baby girl in India to highlight its campaign against female feticide in the country. Baby ‘Nargis’ – which stands for beautiful flower – was given a birth certificate by the local administration outside Lucknow, the capital of India’s most populous state of Uttar Pradesh.
