Academia Sinica President Chi-Huey Wong To Receive 2012 Arthur C. Cope Award

President Chi-Huey Wong of the Academia Sinica in Taiwan has received the 2012 Arthur C. Cope Award for his outstanding achievements in the field of organic chemistry.

AsianScientist (Sep. 8, 2011) – The American Chemical Society announced this week that Chi-Huey Wong, President of the Academia Sinica in Taiwan, will be awarded the 2012 Arthur C. Cope Award for his outstanding achievements in the field of organic chemistry.

The Arthur C. Cope Award is one of the highest honors in the field of organic chemistry, and it recognizes Wong for his work in developing new synthetic methods using enzymes, programmable and automated oligosaccharide synthesis, and preparation of homogeneous glycoproteins.

President Wong will receive the award at the American Chemical Society National Meeting in March 2012 in San Diego, and he will also give a lecture during the fall 2012 National Meeting in Philadelphia.

As the 35th recipient of the award, President Wong is also the first Taiwanese to receive the award, established in 1973 to commemorate the late Head of the Department of Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States.

Since 1986, the prize has been awarded annually to outstanding organic chemists around the world.

Throughout his career, President Wong has received numerous honors, including the US Presidential Young Investigator Award in Chemistry, US Presidential Green Chemistry Award, the International Carbohydrate Award, and the Humboldt Senior Scientist Research Award, among many others.
