Wang was a recipient of the 2025 L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science International Award for her groundbreaking contributions to cryptography and cryptographic mathematics, fundamental to secure data communication and storage. Her pioneering research uncovered critical vulnerabilities in widely used hash functions within communication protocols, leading to the development of stronger cryptographic standards now widely applied in bank cards, computer passwords and e-commerce systems. By revealing these weaknesses and advancing more secure algorithms, Wang’s work has significantly strengthened global cybersecurity infrastructure while inspiring a new generation of researchers—especially women—to pursue careers in mathematics and information security.
