Sarawagi received the 2019 Infosys Prize for Engineering and Computer Science for her research in databases, data mining, machine learning and natural language processing. Specifically, she was recognized for being one of the earliest researchers to develop information extraction techniques for the unstructured data commonly found on the World Wide Web. Sarawagi was previously a visiting scientist at Google, where her projects included optimizing deep learning models for personalized Youtube recomendations.
