Attanayake was one of the recipients of the 2023 OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Award for Early Career Women Scientists in the Developing World. She was recognized for her work on crop disease identification and management. Her projects include the optimization of a rapid detection method of coconut phytoplasma in Sri Lanka.
