Hazra is one of the recipients of the 2020 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology for his contributions to probability theory, in particular, random matrices with dependent entries, random fields and random graphs, as well as themes of interest to physics like sandpile models and membranes.
