Chhuneja won the 2022 Mentor Award by Borlaug Global Rust Initiative for mentoring more than 30 young women researchers in India, and for her research on identification and introgression of novel genetic variation from wild wheat species into cultivated wheat leading to wheat gene pool enrichment.
