The first Asian recipient of the Carl-Zeiss-Humboldt Research Award, Liew was honored for his research on the fracture behavior of solids, which is critical for constructing technical components and developing new materials. His research team is also studying fireproof construction materials and exploring recycling methods for construction materials like decommissioned wind turbines.
