Gu received the 2020 Preeminent Science and Technology Award, the nation’s top scientific award, for his significant contributions to aviation science and technology in China. Notably, Gu established the country’s aerodynamic aircraft design system, leading the design of three generations of local aircraft. He was also the chief designer of China’s first high-speed, high-altitude interceptor fighter jets and carried out strategic research to bolster national aviation efforts. For his leadership, Gu was inducted into both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering.
