Miyawaki, recognized for his contributions to molecular imaging, is one of two recipients of the 25th Keio Medical Science Prize. He is the inventor of ScaleS, a clearing reagent that reveals the structural details of cells and organs, and AkaBLI, a bioluminescence imaging system that glows and sheds light on the structures and cell activities within living cells and animals. Miyawaki’s imaging technology has allowed researchers around the world to observe microscopic molecular activity within cells, providing the foundation for recent breakthroughs in the field of life sciences.
