Lo was awarded the 2016 Future Science Award for developing non-invasive prenatal diagnostics tests widely used around the world today. Thanks to his two decades of research, which has benefited millions of pregnant mothers around the world, it is possible to not only uncover the sex of an unborn baby but also to detect chromosomal abnormalities such as Down’s, Edwards and Patau syndromes. Lo was also the first Chinese scholar to be awarded the prestigious 2015 Wallace H. Coulter Lectureship Award from the American Association for Clinical Chemistry.
