Wee received the L’Oreal-Unesco For Women In Science Award 2022 in recognition of her environmental work in conserving the country’s natural coastal habitats. Using environmental DNA or eDNA, which is the metabarcoding of fish, Wee’s research helps detect overfishing and pollution in mangrove swamps.
