Asian Scientist Magazine is proud to announce the launch of a non-profit national youth art competition, Celebrating Our Healthcare Heroes.

Working tirelessly day and night since the pandemic’s onset, our frontline healthcare workers and scientists are some of the most visible faces of COVID-19. To celebrate their dedication, sacrifice and bravery, the Celebrating Our Healthcare Heroes competition aims to use art as a platform for the public to show their immense gratitude and appreciation to Singapore’s frontliners.

The art competition hopes to:

1. Honor the brave healthcare workers and scientists who contributed to the fight against COVID-19

2. Offer a platform for youth to share their voice and personal experiences surrounding the pandemic

3. Rally national support and inspire unity within the community

Entry Guidelines

Participants are to submit a 2D, A3-size (29.7cm x 42.0cm) original artwork based on any ONE of the three themes:

1. Your experience of the pandemic
2. Hopes & vision for a post-COVID world
3. Contributions of our healthcare workers and scientists

The competition comprises three categories:

1. Junior: Participants from 5 to 12 years old
2. Intermediate: Participants from 13 to 16 years old
3. Advanced: Participants from 17 to 21 years old

Eligibility:

1. Participants aged 5 to 21 who reside in Singapore
2. No professional qualifications are necessary
3. This competition is not open to full-time employees of Wildtype Media Group Pte Ltd and their family members

Prizes

There will be a total of 39 winners in the competition. 13 winners from each category will be selected by a judging panel comprising of senior healthcare professionals, artists and educators.

• The top 3 winners from each category will receive a cash prize of S$500, S$300 and S$200 respectively.
• The 10 merit prize winners from each category will receive S$50 worth of shopping mall vouchers.

In addition, certificates will be presented to all selected winners.

Selected entries will also be showcased at the award ceremony.

Submission

Submission guidelines:

  1. The competition will open from January 11, 2021 and close by February 28, 2021.
  2. All participants must register their entry using the online form and drop off or mail their physical artwork to Wildtype Media Group located at 71 Ayer Rajah Crescent, #06-26, Singapore 139951 from Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 5.30 PM (excluding public holidays). Physically submissions will also be accepted on 27 and 28 February 2021, 10 AM to 5:00 PM.
  3. Physical artwork that are submitted without the online form will be disqualified.
  4. The Organizer will contact participants if additional materials or information is required. If your contact information changes after submission, please inform us at [email protected].

Selection Criteria & Judging

Competition theme:

The themes for Celebrating Our Healthcare Heroes are:

1. Your experience of the pandemic
2. Hopes & vision for a post-COVID world
3. Contributions of our healthcare workers and scientists

Selection criteria:

Participants are encouraged to submit their best expression of any ONE of the three themes. The panel will seek the following criteria in the winning entries:

  1. Uniqueness and originality of artwork — 30%
  2. Relevance to the theme — 30%
  3. Overall aesthetic appeal— 40%
  4. Panel of judges:

    Entries will be judged by a panel chaired by the Publisher of Asian Scientist Magazine, Dr. Juliana Chan.

Terms & Conditions

  1. The Celebrating Our Healthcare Heroes competition (the “Competition”) is open to Singapore residents aged 5 to 21 years old (the “Participant”).
  2. The Competition is not open to full-time employees of Wildtype Media Group Pte Ltd (the “Organizer”).
  3. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.
  4. Participants must reside and/or study and/or work in Singapore only. Participants who cannot produce reasonable evidence of residence, work or study in Singapore will be disqualified.
  5. No responsibility is taken for entries that are lost, delayed, misdirected, incomplete, cannot be delivered or entered for any technical or other reason.
  6. Each prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and where applicable, not redeemable for cash or other prizes.
  7. The Organizer accepts no responsibility for any costs associated with participating in the Competition or accepting a prize, including, without limitation, personal expenses, insurance, travel and transfers.
  8. The Organizer accepts no responsibility and disclaims any liability for any damage, loss, injury or death incurred or suffered as a result of participating in the Competition or accepting the prize.
  9. Winners will be notified by email. In the event the winners cannot be contacted within seven (7) days of the first notification attempt, the prize may be forfeited and no compensation will be given.
  10. The Competition begins at 12:00:01 am Singapore Time on January 11, 2021 and ends at 5:00:00 pm Singapore Time on February 28, 2021.
  11. The judges’ decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into. The Organizer reserves the right not to award a prize if the Entries do not meet the requirements.
  12. By entering, each Participant warrants and represents the following with respect to their Entry:
  13. — 12.1 The Entry is 100% original and Participant is the sole and exclusive owner of the material;
    — 12.2 The Entry will not infringe on or conflict with the copyright, trademark, trade secret or any other personal or proprietary right of any other party;
    — 12.3 The Participant shall be liable and provide compensation in the event of any action, claim or proceedings brought against the Organizers by a third party as a result of infringement of existing copyright caused by the Participant in participation to the Competition.
    — 12.4 Entry into the Competition constitutes the Participant’s irrevocable permission, at no additional compensation or consideration, for the Organizer or their affiliates to reproduce the Participant’s entry in promotional communications including, but not limited to, Asian Scientist Magazine.

  14. By successfully registering for this event, the participants consents to the organizer and its partners using and processing the participant’s personal data in connection with the competition and in accordance with the organizer’s privacy policy or otherwise as required by law or regulation.
  15. The entrant understands and agrees that by participating in the competition, the Organizer shall reserve the right, where permitted by law, to publish the Participant’s Entry, photo and name for news, publicity, advertising, public relations, and promotional purposes without any further compensation, notice, review, or consent.

  17. The Organizer reserves the right to amend the rules of the Competition at any time without prior notice.
  18. The Competition will be governed by the laws of the Republic of Singapore.
