AsianScientist (Jul. 17, 2011) – German research center Max Planck Gesellschaft will collaborate with the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) to establish a joint research institute in South Korea.
On June 14 last year, Max Planck President Prof. Peter Gruss and Prof. Baik Sung-gi had signed an agreement to establish two international Max Planck Centers specializing in “Attosecond Science” and “Complex Phase Materials.”
The Max Planck Korea POSTECH institute, which received formal approval in December, was jointly founded as an independent organization by the Korean government, North Gyeongsang Province, Pohang Municipal Government, and POSTECH.
An inaugural meeting on July 11, 2011 to celebrate the foundation of the joint research center was attended by POSTECH president, Prof. Baik Sung-gi, and POSTECH professor and President of the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics, Prof. Peter Fulde.
The joint research center in Korea will become a Max Planck member institute in 2015 after three years of building scientific know-how and experience.
