Prakash received the 2024 Distinguished Scientist Award from the Society for In Vitro Biology for his influential contributions to plant tissue culture and plant biotechnology. His research has advanced understanding of the physiological and molecular mechanisms underlying vegetative shoot development and plant responses to abiotic stress, with the long-term aim of developing crops with improved stress tolerance.

Using model plants such as Arabidopsis, rice and mangroves, his work integrates hormone signalling and developmental biology to enhance plant resilience.

Prakash has also helped translate in vitro technologies into practical applications, including innovations supporting sustainable urban agriculture and food security in land-constrained environments.
