Third Edition Of The Asian Scientist Writing Prize Launched

The Asian Scientist Writing Prize is back for a third run with a new theme focused on STEM and Sustainability in Asia.

AsianScientist (Jul. 22, 2019) – Asia’s foremost science writing competition, the Asian Scientist Writing Prize, is back for a third edition after two successful runs in 2015 and 2017. Co-organized by Asian Scientist Magazine and Science Centre Singapore (SCS), and sponsored by World Scientific Publishing Company, the Asian Scientist Writing Prize seeks to honor the region’s best science communicators and shine a spotlight on the excellent research being done in Asia.

The competition opens today and welcomes submissions from entrants living or working in Asia. In recognition of the urgency of global environmental issues and the role that science can play in addressing them, this year’s theme is STEM and Sustainability in Asia, where STEM refers to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“Asia is going to be hit hard by issues like climate change, but we believe that Asia—and Asian science—must be part of the solution. This year, we are looking forward to entries that not only accurately convey the environmental challenges that we face, but also showcase how made-in-Asia STEM can make a difference on a global scale,” said Dr. Juliana Chan, editor-in-chief of Asian Scientist Magazine.

The winning entry in the open category will receive S$5,000 in cash and a 3D/2N stay at Banyan Tree Bintan, while the second and third place winners will receive S$3,000 and S$2,000 respectively. To encourage young people to participate, the Science Centre Singapore Youth Writing Prize is a special category reserved for those aged 13 to 18. In addition, ten winners will be selected to receive the World Scientific Publishing Merit Prize of S$500 worth of book vouchers.

All winners will receive a certificate of recognition and an invitation to the awards ceremony to be held at the end of the year.
