AsianScientist (Jul. 19, 2018) – The Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Network Technology Research Institute of China Unicom have signed a cooperative agreement to establish a 5G Technology Joint Laboratory.
5G technology is regarded as an enabler of China’s scientific and technological development, which in turn has far-reaching impact on the country’s economic development. By establishing the joint lab, CNIC and China Unicom will strengthen cooperation in 5G technology development through collaborations on a series of key technologies such as edge computing, network slicing, the Internet of Things and industrial Internet.
The lab will release joint research results and develop advanced applications based on China Unicom’s 5G industrial environment. It will also explore the use of 5G technology in supporting field science outposts and scientific expeditions.
“China Unicom has been attaching great importance to 5G technology innovation and its applications in new areas,” said Dr. Zhang Yong, director of the Network Technology Research Institute of China Unicom.
