First Batch Of Belt And Road Power Engineering Program Graduates

Participants of the workshop were granted exclusive access to key power facilities in Hong Kong and China, and left with a deeper understanding of power engineering.

AsianScientist (May 9, 2018) – The first professional workshop under the Belt and Road Advanced Professional Development Program in Power and Energy has concluded, with 30 participants consisting of senior managerial executives, academics and researchers from 12 Belt and Road countries graduating with a deeper understanding of the power and energy sector.

The workshop and program is run by the Silk Road International School of Engineering (SRISE), which was jointly set up by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). The State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) and The Hongkong Electric Company, Limited (HK Electric) are key industry partners of SRISE.

During the workshop, participants visited advanced facilities rarely open to the public, such as the State Grid’s Ultra High Voltage Experimental Base and HK Electric’s Lamma Power Station. They also picked up practical knowledge on the advanced design and management of power facilities from veteran academics and professionals from PolyU, XJTU, State Grid and HK Electric.

At the graduation ceremony for the 30 participants held at HKU, Mr Chan Tze-ching, PolyU Council Chairman, said, “The Belt and Road Initiative is a new engine that can energize the global economy. It opens up unprecedented opportunities for new collaborative ventures.”

“The four collaborating parties have high aspirations for this program, which helps nurture high-level talents of different enterprises and organizations in the Belt and Road region,” added XJTU President Professor Wang Shuguo.

“We will explore further extending collaboration in more spectra, and enriching the scope of the program to cope with global developments, so that more talents and enterprises of the Belt and Road region can benefit.”
