Keeping Science In The Public Eye

Capturing the nuances of scientific research and translating it into something that the public will understand is no easy feat, but EurekAlert!’s Brian Lin has a wealth of experience to share.

AsianScientist (Apr. 11, 2018) – Scientists devote considerable amounts of time and energy to producing research, all in the hopes of getting it published in an academic journal and read by a handful of peers. But can this valuable repository of information also be shared with non-specialists, students and the general public?

To equip aspiring science communicators with the skills required to convey complex concepts in a timely and accurate manner to the public, Asian Scientist Magazine has organized a half-day workshop titled ‘How To Position Your Science In The Best Light,’ to be held on April 26, 2018.

The workshop will be run by Mr. Brian Lin, director of editorial content strategy at EurekAlert!, a global news service operated by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Drawing on 19 years of experience as a science communicator, Lin will share best practices for science communication and practical tips for helping good science garner international media attention.

In addition, the workshop will also cover the effective use of multimedia such as diagrams, videos and infographics, as well as provide tips on how to get more traction on platforms such as EurekAlert!.

This half-day workshop, which is brought to you by Asian Scientist Magazine and the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Innovation Centre, is targeted at researchers, students and corporate communication officers but is also relevant for anyone interested in the art of science communication.
