AsianScientist (Apr. 27, 2015) – Professor Keiko Torii of the Institute of Transformative Bio-Molecules (ITbM), Nagoya University, Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the University of Washington will receive the 2015 Fellow of American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB) Award.
At ITbM, Torii is currently involved in the development of molecules that selectively induce plant growth as well as the bio-imaging project, collaborating with ITbM’s plant biologists, synthetic chemists and theoretical chemists. Her research on stomata formation has also contributed to the knowledge of how plant cells coordinate proliferation and differentiation to generate specific patterns during organ morphogenesis. She is also the Monitoring Editor for Plant Physiology and Editor-in-Chief of The Arabidopsis Book.
Established in 2007, the Fellow of ASPB award is granted to nominated members in recognition of distinguished and long-term contributions to plant biology and service to the Society in areas that include research, education, mentoring, outreach as well as professional and public service. Recipients of the award have contributed to the Society for at least ten years and only 0.2 percent of the current membership each year is granted the award.
The Honors will be presented at the Plant Biology 2015 meeting (July 26-30, 2015) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Chang Caren, of the University of Maryland, College Park, will also receive the award.
