CNGB, BioStorage Technologies To Partner On Gene Bank

The China National Genebank has formed an alliance with BioStorage Technologies, which will provide it with biorepository expertise for the development of the biobank.

AsianScientist (Oct. 31, 2013) – The China National Genebank (CNGB) has announced a strategic alliance agreement with BioStorage Technologies, Inc., which will provide it with biorepository expertise for the development of the genomic biobank.

CNGB has a large database and a biorepository consisting of 30 million biological samples that include humans, animals, plants and microorganisms. Physical samples stored within the biobank are used for scientific research, translational medicine, breeding and new energy exploitation.

BioStorage Technologies, a provider of sample management solutions for the bioscience industry, has established an agreement to support the growth of CNGB through a partnership with BGI-Shenzhen, a genomic research center.

“The CNGB which was established by BGI-Shenzhen is dedicated to supporting the growth of the genomics (-omics and all biology) industry within China to support basic research, industry development and industry applications,” said Dr. Yong Zhang, director of CNGB.

CNGB is planning to expand its biobank consortium across China to provide better support for global data sharing and exchange of biobank practices such as construction, genomics research, and data acquisition.

“Together, we will ensure the growth of the genomic biobank industry in China and promote the rapid development of Chinese biobanks – with the aim of providing numerous biological resources and a strong scientific backbone for the research of life science,” said Dr. Zhang.
