Back for the second year, the Asian Scientist 100 compiles the region’s best in science and technology. From cancer to climate change, Asia’s brightest are working towards overcoming the challenges of the present, with the ultimate goal of shaping our future.
The mission of Asian Scientist Magazine has always been to shine a spotlight on leading research in Asia. With the inaugural Asian Scientist 100 list, we shared with our readers a detailed roundup of some of Asia’s leading scientists. In 2017, we are proud to continue our efforts at raising awareness of scientific excellence in the region.
In the 2017 edition of the Asian Scientist 100 list, we celebrate 100 scientists, innovators and leaders who have contributed in significant ways to Asia’s science and technology landscape. Their dedication, commitment and drive have served to mold the worlds of environmental sciences, astronomy, mathematics, physics, chemistry and more. And this year, we are introducing a new category, sustainability, to celebrate the scientists among us who are striving towards a cleaner, greener future; one that protects the limited resources of this planet we call home.
To be acknowledged on this list, the honoree must have received a national or international prize in 2015 or 2016 for his or her scientific research. This prize must involve a competitive selection procedure. Alternatively, in the same period, the honoree could have made a significant contribution in scientific discovery or leadership that has benefitted either academia or industry.
We hope that the Asian Scientist 100 honorees will continue to lead scientific discovery and the exchange of ideas across fields and disciplines, in Asia and beyond.
