SGInnovate’s Founding CEO To Lead Singularity University

As the founding CEO of SGInnovate, Mr Steve Leonard helped establish a team that has built and invested in 90 deep tech startups since 2016. He will assume the role of CEO at Singularity University in May 2020.

AsianScientist (Jan. 29, 2020) – The Singapore government-owned deep tech development company SGInnovate has announced that its founding CEO Mr Steve Leonard will be concluding his term in May 2020. Leonard leaves SGInnovate for Singularity University, where he has been appointed as CEO.

As the founding CEO of SGInnovate, Leonard led a team that has built and invested in 90 deep tech startups since 2016. His team has also been instrumental in creating an engaged deep tech community of more than 33,000 people.

“Helping to create and build SGInnovate has been my complete focus for four years. From imagining it in 2015 to its launch in 2016 and operating as a highly professional group as we enter 2020, I feel tremendous personal pride,” Leonard said.

“The conclusion of my current term in May represents a good time for organizational renewal. Every team moves forward based on fresh ideas and energy, and I’m very confident in the men and women of SGInnovate to continuously bring new capabilities to the deep tech startup ecosystem in Singapore,” he added.

Prior to working for the Singapore Government on nation-building priorities, Leonard served in executive leadership positions in the technology industry for almost thirty years, much of that time based in Europe or Asia. He has scaled up information-technology businesses for enterprise and consumer-facing companies in software, hardware, services and consulting.

“We are fortunate and excited to have Steve (Leonard) join Singularity at such a critical time,” said Mr. Erik Anderson, executive chairman at SU and Founder and CEO of WestRiver Group. “He is a proven international leader with integrity, a track record of execution to plan, expertise in scaling organizations and is committed to our purpose and global opportunity. The board and I look forward to working with Steve to shape the next phase of growth for SU.”
