Craig Venter’s Human Longevity Inc Shutters Singapore Office

The Singapore office, the only branch of the company outside of the US, was set up in 2015.

AsianScientist (May 26, 2017)Human Longevity, Inc. (HLI), a biotechnology company that aims to use genetics to extend human life, will be closing its Singapore office by the end of May 2017. The Singapore office, the only branch of the company outside of the US, was set up in 2015.

Founded by Dr. Craig Venter and Dr. Peter Diamandis in 2013, HLI combines genomic and phenotypic data to offer preventive healthcare. Venter is famous for his role in the Human Genome Project, while Diamandis is known for founding the X PRIZE Foundation.

Following an US$80 million round of Series A funding in 2014, the parent company raised a further US$220 million of Series B funding in 2016 and is currently valued at US$1.2 billion.

“Decisions that affect our employees are never easy nor made lightly,” said HLI’s Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Ms. Heather Kowalski, in a statement to Asian Scientist Magazine.

“We made this decision because the time differences and general geographic separation of teams in multiple locations for some of our most critical functions was not a sustainable way for us to most effectively manage our business. Thus, we have consolidated the Singapore functions into our San Diego and Mountain View, California offices.”
