Singapore-Japanese Tie-Up On Biotech Innovation

A Japanese-Singapore collaboration will focus on the R&D and commercialization of novel clinical approaches for diseases relevant to the Asian population.

AsianScientist (Nov. 27, 2013) – The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the National University Health System (NUHS) have signed an agreement with Kanagawa Prefecture’s Global Collaboration Center for Life Innovation (GCC) to focus on the R&D and commercialization of drugs, diagnostic tests and medical devices.

The research collaboration will target diseases that are relevant to the Asian population, such as cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and dengue fever.

“We are very excited about this collaboration with the GCC and A*STAR. NUS and NUHS have strong expertise in biomedical sciences of relevance to Asia, and this partnership will provide a good platform for joint work to translate our scientific discoveries into new solutions to improve health,” said Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, NUS president and NUHS chairman.
