NTU & LightLab Join Hands On Low-Energy Lighting

The NTU-LightLab joint research program will focus on improving the energy efficiency and quality of lighting and displays.

AsianScientist (Dec. 17, 2014) – LightLab Sweden AB, a Swedish firm specialising in low-energy lighting, and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will be collaborating to develop the next generation low-cost, energy-efficient lighting technology.

Under the new partnership, the joint research program will be hosted by NTU’s LUMINOUS! Centre of Excellence for Semiconductor Lighting and Displays. The NTU research center, which specializes in energy efficiency and quality lighting and displays, will provide the expertise and facilities to develop the next generation lighting technology.

Leveraging NTU’s strengths in lighting technology, the partnership is also expected to unleash the full potential of EEE Light®, a unique lighting technology based on field emission developed by LightLab. LightLab is looking to bolstering it with new materials and light extraction technologies through the research partnership.

This collaboration with NTU will provide a unique platform for LightLab’s integrated lighting technology by allowing the company access to the University’s world-class research facilities. It will also allow the company to explore and evaluate new cost-effective architectures and structures for general lighting and industrial solutions.

Associate Professor Hilmi Volkan Demir, Director of LUMINOUS! said, “This joint research program will build on NTU’s strengths in engineering and science and our proven track record of industry collaboration and innovation. Through NTU’s LUMINOUS!, a center of excellence under our newly launched Photonics Institute, we look forward to working with LightLab to develop novel cost-effective lighting technologies for the future.”

Demir will lead the joint research program together with Dr. Jonas Tirén, Vice President of R&D at LightLab.
