ISRO Earned US$54 Million From Foreign Launches

Launching satellites for countries including Japan and Singapore has earned the Indian Space Research Organization US$54 million in the last three years.

AsianScientist (Jul 17, 2014) – Over the last three years, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has launched 15 foreign satellites, earning a revenue of approximately US$54 million.

The 15 foreign satellites include PROITERES from Japan, launched in 2012, and the VELOX satellites from Singapore launched this month. In addition, India successfully launched 14 of their own satellites in the same period.

The Indian Department of Space’s future space programme for 2020 envisages the development of advanced launch vehicle systems, thematic earth observational satellites with improved resolution, and high-power, high-throughput communication satellites, among others. These technologies will be used for weather and climate studies, the development of critical technologies for human spaceflight and space science and planetary exploration purposes.
