ARKRAY, Inc. has set up its first Asian research center outside Japan at Singapore’s Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology.

AsianScientist (May 22, 2013) – ARKRAY, Inc. has set up its first Asian research center outside Japan at Singapore’s Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN). The company will invest S$9.1 million over a five-year period into the collaboration.

The Kyoto, Japan-based ARKRAY, Inc. is a pioneer in the field of automated analysis systems. Founded in 1960, it is one of the world’s leading companies in diabetes monitoring devices, and distributes its products in over 80 countries.

IBN, an institute with the Agency of Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) at the Biopolis research hub, has carved a niche in the area of biodevices and diagnostics through the use of nanotechnology and bio-MEMS for early and accurate disease detection. ARKRAY’s new research center at IBN will employ 21 researchers and will focus on developing novel detection kits for infectious diseases.

“ARKRAY is excited to embark on this new venture with IBN. We have chosen to set up our newest research center in Singapore because of IBN’s distinguished knowledge and expertise in a wide variety of scientific fields, and we believe we can find a lot of opportunities to produce synergy with IBN through a long-term relationship,” said Mr. Takeshi Matsuda, President and CEO of ARKRAY.
